Autumn Citrus Care

Autumn is a busy season for ripening of citrus fruit. Unless you’re getting regular autumn rains, give citrus a deep drink each week. Inadequate soil moisture can affect fruit quality and overall plant health, so it’s important to ensure the water is getting down into the soil. It’s as easy as mixing 15 mL of Yates® Waterwise Soil Wetter into a 9 L watering can and watering over the root zone (or potting mix for container grown citrus). This will help the water penetrate below the surface and down into the roots where it’s needed.

And to help keep citrus leaves healthy and green and nourish the developing fruit, feed each week with Yates Thrive® Citrus Liquid Plant Food. It contains a special blend of nitrogen to promote green leaf growth, phosphorus for strong root development and potassium to encourage flowering, healthy plants and quality fruit. Just mix 2 capfuls into a 9 L watering can and apply around the root zone of in-ground and potted citrus.

Lift your gardening game by planting fresh citrus

Autumn is a fantastic time to plant a new citrus tree, as the soil is still warm enough to encourage root growth and the tree can start to establish before the cool winter weather arrives. There’s nothing like picking your very own citrus fruit like sweet mandarins, tangy lemons and juicy oranges and dwarf varieties of citrus trees mean they can be grown in small spaces.

Follow these easy 4-steps:

  1. Find a warm sunny spot in the garden with well-drained soil.
  2. Dig the planting hole twice as wide and to the same depth as the tree’s root ball.
  3. Mix some Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertilliser into the soil.
  4. Position the citrus tree in the hole, backfill with soil and water well.

Why use Yates Dynamic Lifter for citrus?

Yates Dynamic Lifter adds organic matter to the soil which improves the quality of the soil by increasing water and nutrient holding capacity, improves soil structure and provides food for beneficial soil microorganisms and earthworms.

Yates Dynamic Lifter helps give the new citrus tree the best possible start by providing gentle slow release organic nutrients which promote root growth.

For a boost, feed in the growing, flowering and fruiting seasons with Yates Thrive Citrus liquid plant food.
