How To Grow Dieffenbachia


Dieffenbachia, which has the unfortunate common name of ‘dumb cane’ (due to its potential to cause speaking and breathing difficulties if ingested) has attractive large green and yellow patterned leaves and and brings a lovely tropical feel when grown as an indoor plant or a lush look when grown in a warm, sheltered spot out in the garden

Position – Indoors in a warm well lit spot away from direct sunlight or outdoors in tropical, sub-tropical and warm temperature climates in a moist and shaded area.
Water – Minimal watering
Soil – Well drained & moist but not too wet
When To Grow – Throughout the year

How To Grow

Step 1 – Choose a pot at least 400mm wide and deep. Position in shade and protect from strong winds.
Step 2 – Fill pot with good quality potting mix such as Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter.
Step 3 – Plant into pot and water in well. Apply Yates Thrive All Purpose Liquid Plant Food every fortnight from spring to autumn to promote healthy plants with lush foliage growth.
Step 4 – Do not overwater, feel the potting mix, if it feels dry then water it.
Step 5 – You may need to re-pot your plant if it grows too top heavy.
