Freckle Control in Your Garden
Venturia carpophila
Venturia carpophila
Freckle is mostly a fungal disease of stone fruit and almonds. The disease starts off as small brown spots or freckles on the fruit which become scabby. Wet weather in spring and summer favour the disease spread.
Dark spots or cracks, on mature fruit and dark lesions on undersides of leaves and on shoots. Spots are flush with the fruit surface and can join together to form larger spots.
Prune trees to promote good air circulation so that twigs, leaves and fruit dry quickly. Apply fungicides at the appropriate times (dependant on fruit type).
