How to Grow Calla Lilies

Choose a spot in the garden that receives filtered sunlight (full sun in cold regions) and prepare the planting area well by digging in Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser.

Dig the planting hole twice as wide and to the same depth as the root-ball. Remove the shrub from the container, gently tease the roots and cut away any circled or tangled roots.

Position in hole and backfill with soil, gently firming down. Form a raised or doughnut shaped ring of soil around the outer edge of the plant's root zone. This helps keep water where it's needed.  Always water in well after planting to settle the soil around the roots and keep the soil moist for several weeks while the new plant establishes.

Mulch with an organic mulch, such as bark chips, sugar cane or pea straw.

Water regularly, ensuring the soil is always moist.

Feed every 2 to 4 weeks with Yates Thrive Roses and Flowers Liquid Plant Food.

Choose a pot at least 200 mm wide and deep. Position in filtered sun light.

Fill the pot with Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter.  Remove the shrub from the container, gently tease the roots and cut away any circled or tangled roots.

Position in hole and backfill with potting mix, gently firming down. Water in well.

Water gently and keep the potting mix damp.

Feed every 2 to 4 weeks with Yates Thrive Roses and Flowers Liquid Plant Food.

• If the leaves look too dark it means the plant is overwatered. 
• After the flowers have died you can stop watering. The bulbs will go dormant and you can cut and place them in new spots or pots as desired. 
• Allow it to die back for about two month each year during winter. 
• If your area is susceptible to frost, it's best to grow them indoors.
• If you are growing them from bulbs , then dig them in the prepared ground about 7 to 8 cm deep in spring time. 
• Calla Lilies prefer acidic soils ranging from 6 to 6.8.
• They can also be planted near ponds where it's damp.
