How to Grow Celosia

Celosia (Celosia plumosa) are vibrant annual plants that produce feathery, fire like plumes in brilliant shades of red, yellow, scarlet and orange. Due to their high tolerance to dry areas and the heat, they require little maintenance once established and are a great feature for any garden.

How to grow celosias in a garden

Step 1

Choose a spot in the garden that receives full sun and prepare the planting area well by digging in Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser.

Step 2

When the soil is warm, sow the Celosia (Celosia plumosa) seeds directly where the flowers are to grow.

Step 3

Cover lightly with soil.

Step 4

Water gently and keep moist through germination period.

Step 5

Once the seedlings have grown to approximately 5cm, lightly apply an organic mulch to the top of the soil, such as bark chips, sugar cane or pea straw.

Step 6

Feed every 1 to 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Rose and Flower Liquid Plant Food.

How to grow celosias in a pot

Step 1

Choose a pot at least 200mm wide and deep. Position in full sun to part shade.

Step 2

Fill the chosen pots with quality potting mix, such as Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter.

Step 3

Sow the Celosia (Celosia plumosa) seeds directly into the pot, water gently and keep moist through germination period.

Step 4

Feed every 1 to 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Roses and Flowers Liquid Plant Food.
