How to Grow Chamomile

Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) is a beautiful little white flowering perennial plant that has a wide variety of uses. The plant is a lovely ground cover for herb gardens, cottage gardens or even as a lawn substitute. The flowers are able to be dried and made into a delicious tasting herbal tea.

How to grow chamomile in a garden

Step 1

Choose a spot in the garden that receives full sun to light shade and prepare the planting area well by digging in compost and Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser.

Step 2

Sow Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) seeds in the prepared bed, cover lightly with Yates Seed Raising Mix, firm down and water well.

Step 3

Water gently and keep moist through germination period.

Step 4

Once the seedlings are at least 5 cm, mulch with an organic mulch such as bark chips, sugar cane or pea straw.

Step 5

Feed every 1 to 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Roses and Flowers Liquid Plant Food.

How to grow chamomile in a pot

Step 1

Choose a pot at least 200 mm wide and deep. Position in full sun to light shade.

Step 2

Fill the chosen pots with quality potting mix, such as Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter.

Step 3

Sow Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis) seeds directly into the pot and cover lightly with Yates Seed Raising Mix.

Step 4

Water gently and keep moist through germination period.

Step 5

Once the seedlings have grown at least 5 cm, place a light layer of organic mulch, such as bark chips, sugar cane or pea straw around the base of the plant.

Step 6

Feed every 1 to 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Roses and Flowers Liquid Plant Food.

Can be used as a lawn substitute in light traffic areas.
