How to Grow Philodendron

Choose a pot at least twice the size of the select plant and position in a spot indoors that is well lit, but away from direct sunlight, like near a window.

Partially fill the pot with Yates Speciality Potting Mix Plants and Ferns.

Remove the plant from the container, gently tease the roots and cut away any circled or tangled roots.

Position in pot and backfill with potting mix, gently firming down. Water in well keeping the water away from the leaves.

Protect your plants from annoying fungus gnats by applying a layer of Yates Gnat Barrier to the top of the mix.

After the initial watering, allow the potting mix to almost dry out before watering again. To test, insert your index finger to the first knuckle, if it's dry, water and if it's still moist, leave watering for a few days.

Feed fortnightly during the growing season – usually from spring to autumn – with Yates Thrive Indoor Plants & Ferns Liquid Plant Food. If you prefer a set-and-forget option, use Yates Thrive Plant Food Spikes Plants & Ferns. Simply insert the required amount of spikes into the potting mix and water in well - it feeds for up to two months.

• Remove dead leaves from the stems. 

• Trim dead or dry brown stems from the base of the plant. 

• Wipe the leaves with damp cloth to remove dust. 

• Mist during dry and hot season to create a moist condition. 

• Divide and repot every 2-3 years in spring to keep the plant healthy.
