With their wide range of colours, heights and forms, Ranunculus are a very popular spring flowering bulb. They are fantastic to grow in mass plantings in a sunny garden bed or in pots scattered around the garden or on balconies. Perfect for the cut flower garden!

How to grow ranunculus in your garden

Step 1

Choose a well drained spot in the garden that receives full sun.

Step 2

Enrich the soil with some Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser before planting.

Step 3

Place corms directly where the plants are to grow at a depth of 3 cm and a minimum of 15 cm apart.

Step 4

Cover with soil.

Step 5

Keep the soil moist.

Step 6

When the plants reach bud form, feed every 1 – 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Roses & Flowers Liquid Plant Food, which is rich in potassium to help promote healthy plants.

How to grow ranunculus in a pot

Step 1

Choose a pot that has adequate drainage holes and place it in a position that gets full sun.

Step 2

Fill the pot with Yates Potting Mix with Dynamic Lifter.

Step 3

Place corms directly where the plants are to grow at a depth of 3cm and a minimum of 15 cm apart.

Step 4

Cover with soil.

Step 5

Keep the soil moist.

Step 6

When the plants reach bud form, feed every 1 – 2 weeks with Yates Thrive Roses & Flowers Liquid Plant Food, which is rich in potassium to help promote healthy plants.

Growing tips

  • Great for mass plantings in beds, under trees that provide part shaded conditions or on grassy banks.
  • Rananculus grow best as annual plantings and can be unreliable if left in the soil or for the following years.
  • Corms can be sown and started to grow in shallow seed trays for transplanting later.
  • Make sure that you sow the corm with the claws facing downwards. The plant will still grow if placed upside down, but growth is deformed and slower.
