How to Grow Flower Seeds

First, choose a position then add some Yates Dynamic Lifter Soil Improver & Plant Fertiliser to the soil - this improves soil structure and provides nitrogen for healthy leaf growth and phosphorus for strong root development.

Cover medium-sized seeds with around 6 mm of soil, and fine seeds with just a sprinkle of soil. Some tiny flower seeds such as Begonias, Petunias and Coleus need light to germinate, so simply press them into the surface of moist Yates Seed Raising Mix.

Water well to keep the soil moist. Once flower buds form, feed regularly with Yates Thrive Flower & Fruit Soluble Plant Food - this complete fertiliser is rich in phosphorus, potassium and trace elements, encouraging prolific flowering and fruiting.

Protect seedlings from being eaten by Snails and Slugs with Yates Snail & Slug Bait. The pellets contain a bittering agent to help prevent accidental consumption by children and pets and they're safe to use around edible plants.

Which Flowers Can I Grow?

If you'd like to add some fragrance to your garden, Sweet Peas come in a range of colours, and grow in garden beds, in window boxes or pots and up trellises.

Yates Freesia Giant Masterpiece Seeds smells beautiful and works well in pots, garden beds and as cut flowers.

Calendulas, Cornflowers and Nasturtiums not only look beautiful, but their edible blooms make a great addition to salads and desserts. Sow and cover them with Yates Seed Raising Mix.

Nasturtiums have natural insecticidal properties and can help repel Whitefly, Aphids, and White Cabbage Butterfly.

Bees, Butterflies and insects look lovely in the garden and they also have an important role to play in pollinating plants and seeds. Plant flowers that attract them to help restore some of their natural habitat.

Yates Bee Pasture & Pollen Seed Mix is a quick-growing blend of pollen and nectar flowers to attract and provide forage for honey bees and other pollinators. It includes Phacelia, Borage, Poppies, Zinnia and Calendula.

Yates Butterfly Field Beneficial Insect Seed Mix is a blend of nectar-rich flowers, including Cosmos, Salvia, Agastache, Monarda and Calendula, which provide forage for Butterflies and pollinating insects, as well as food for Caterpillars.

Can't Choose a Specific Flower to Plant?

Our range of mixed seeds gives you a range of colours and varieties that complement each other and are easy to grow together.

Yates Colonial Garden Collection Seed Mix is a selection of flowers grown during Australia's formative colonial years, including Hollyhocks, Foxgloves, Marigolds, and Snapdragons.  Seeds are separated into three distinct groups according to height so you can design your own colonial garden.

Yates Wild Flowers of the World Seed Mix contains annuals such as Cornflower, Cosmos and Californian Poppies to create relaxed gardens packed with colour.
